Here’s a little post for #MondayBlogs: “And Then There Were Humans” — the underappreciated patience of the masses.
Luckily I don’t often have to ride the NYC subway at rush hour, but when I do, the humanity of my fellow New Yorkers always amazes me.
From being pushed, crammed, and elbowed; among bad smells, bad breath, and in unforgiving standing or seated positions; somehow there aren’t hundreds of physical altercations on the subway daily. If you’ve been there, you understand what I’m saying. If you haven’t, refer to the photo above.
It always gets me thinking: we’re forever bombarded with bad news. News that our neighbors are murderers, thieves, committing fraud, and planning a terror attack. But guess what? The microcosm that is the NYC subway system at rush hour tells a different story.
Humanity is incredibly tolerent, if not outright kind and generous. These stories are much more abundant than the homophobic, neo-natzi, al qaeda trained, identity thieving neighbor that the news tries to convice you that you have.
We’re a great species, just look for the goodness and you’ll see it. Everywhere.

There was a guy on the train who looked like a pudgier Kim Jung Un so I wanted to take a pic and title it “Kim Jung Uno’s Pizzeria.” I figured that was mean so I’m just tumbling this text instead of providing a pic. #NotReallyLessMean #CatholicGuilt
